Searching for the perfect home can be a daunting task, and finding the neighborhood that fits you best is crucial in the home buying process. The big question is what neighborhood fits you best. From urban, suburban, rural, to beach areas, to places way off the beaten path there is somewhere for everyone.
Having a good idea and understanding of where you want to live will give your realtor a good starting idea of where to begin their search for your new home. Not only is the "where" a big part of your search but also understanding what kind of properties are in that area. From single family homes, to condos, to duplexes and triplexes all the way to high-rise apartments, not all types of housing are found in all areas, so you should do some basic research to see what the area you are looking at has to offer.
Another part of the types of properties you are looking for, you should also consider features to a property that are commonplace to that type which may be seen as a pro and a con. For example, looking at condos, you may have people closer to you than you'd prefer, or maybe you are terrified of wildlife, so rural areas shouldn't be on the top of your list. Some townships allow ADU (Accessory Dwelling Units), which allow you to have a tenant on the property in the basement (Mother-daughter), in an attached addition to the house, or even as a self-standing structure. These features are great to have an income on your property commonly known as "house hacking", which has become a popular feature some house buyers are looking for but will not be found in high-rise apartments.
In the end you should have a basic idea of where you are looking to live and what you will find when you get there with regard to the general types of housing in that area. You can always call our team, and we will be happy to let you more about the area you are thinking of moving to.
